Bill's Restaurant Canterbury Review.

Monday, June 12, 2017

Bill's Restaurant has recently opened it's doors to the people of Canterbury. Canterbury is a well known city in Kent which is well known for it's culture. The city itself has various pubs, restaurants and cafes and Bill's is a perfect addition to the city. Bill's serves a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The diverse range of cuisines makes the restaurant a great option for everyone, from Bill's Burgers, Ribs, Shepherd's pie, Fish, Thai Green Curry and even a gluten free menu, they really do cater for everyone.

On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and lead to our table, a very comfy booth at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with lots vintage decor dotted around. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The varied range of different tables, lights, chairs and cushions all help to make the restaurant unique.

Our waitress greeted us with a smile and introduced herself. *note to self should have wrote her name down*. She was very bubbly and extremely knowledgeable of all the drinks and meals Bill's have to offer. She had some great recommendations for what to try from the menu. She kept checking we were okay and always kept us updated with our food orders.

We ordered a couple of drinks while we took a look at the menu and tried to decide what we fancied from the array of options available. I opted for Bill's Pink Lemonade and Glen opted for a Beer. The pink lemonade comes in a glass bottle and is served with a fresh strawberries in the glass. It was super refreshing and thirst clenching.
Bill's also sells an array of their products in the restaurant for you to take home with you at the end of your visit. I wish I had picked up a bottle of the pink lemonade to take home with me. They also have an array of Gift Sets, Gins, Jams, Marmalades & Chutney's, Dressing & Oils, Tea & Coffee and A big selection of sweet treats.

For an appraiser to kick start the meal we opted for the Mini Cumberland Sausages glazed with honey and grain mustard. The dish contains five extremely tasteful sausage covered in a honey glaze which does not overpower the meaty taste. I am not a big fan of grain mustard but I did find it helped bring out the other flavours and again did not overpower any of the other taste. Would highly recommend. The sausages are one of the 'for the table' items, if you aren't are meat eater or fancying something different you can also choose from Potato & Rosemary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, Olives or Flatbread with hummus.

Moving onto starters, I choose the Crumbed Halloumi Sticks with garlic & lemon mayo and Glen opted for the Dakkochi Chicken Skewers, Spicy Korean barbecue glaze, Spring onion & lime. Sometimes I can find halloumi to be slightly squeaky but these were gooey with a lovely crunchy coating. The garlic deep really complimented the sticks. The skewers were super tender and high in flavour. All the flavours complimented each other perfectly. They do have a kick to them so if you aren't a fan of spice I wouldn't recommend these.

The main course was the hardest to pick. Bill's offer a range of varied main courses from steak, salads, fish, macaroni cheese and burgers. There is something for everyone making it great for dining in a group. I opted for the Butter Milk Chicken Burger, Crumbled chicken breast, creamy slaw, chipoltle mayo, sesame bun & sweet potato fries. I am super fussy and not a fan of slaw, mayo or sweet potato fries but this was not a problem as Bill's allows you to swap out your fries for normal fries and you can remove things you don't like. You can also add either cheddar cheese, bacon or avocado for an extra cost. I added bacon to mine as chicken and bacon is a perfect combo in my eyes. The burger itself was a tender, juicy chicken breast coated in crispy bread crumbs. The fries were skin on fries, crunchy but fluffy in the middle. Glen opted for Bill's Hamburger, Lettuce, tomato, red onion, secret sauce, sesame bun & fries. Glen removed the tomato and added cheese to make it a cheese burger. As Glen's burger was red meat our waitress asked how he would like it cooked medium or well done. I think this is a great option they offer. We both thoroughly enjoyed the burgers and would definitely order them again.

Once we finished the mains our waitress spoke to us about the dessert menu and informed us about the different options available. I opted for the Melted Chocolate Bombe, Chocolate dome, brownie chunks, chocolate sauce, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, honeycomb & hot salted caramel sauce. OMG! what can I say?! Heaven in desert form. It comes served in a cold tin can which I found helped to keep the ice cream cold and prevented it from melting quickly. The caramel sauce was extremely moreish. Watching the chocolate dome melting added that little bit more excitement to desert. Glen opted for the Apple and rhubarb crumble. Softened apple and rhubarb topped with a crunchy crumble topping served with ice cream. Glen thoroughly enjoyed the crumble and said it reminded him of his childhood. It is definitely a hearty homely desert.

We really enjoyed our afternoon at Bill's Restaurant in Canterbury. The food was delicious and extremely well presented. All the staff were welcoming and super knowledgeable about all meals. We spoke with the manager who informed us that the new summer menu was just about to be launched. There are a few chances to the menu adding in some lighter summery dishes and some new summery desserts.

Bill's restaurant opening hours are 8am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-10:30pm on a Sunday. The restaurant is located in Canterbury town center at 6-8 Rose Lane. They offer a range of menus including Breakfast, Daytime, Dinner, Teatime and a childrens menu.
We are hoping to return to try out the new summer menu as it looks just as delicious as the previous menu.
